Charleston Post & Courier: $10 million solar investment planned for Orangeburg County
Orangeburg County is becoming one of South Carolina’s leading centers for solar energy, with three projects totaling 163 megawatts announced so far this year. The latest news is a $10 million solar farm to be developed this year by Charleston-based solar company Southern Current. “It’s very exciting to be part of projects like these that are helping to reshape South Carolina’s energy future,” Paul Fleury, Southern Current’s founder and chief development officer, said in a statement.
Jasper County Sun Times: Town’s 2nd solar farm in the works
The town of Ridgeland is moving forward on a project for their second solar farm of the year. Southern Current is finalizing all development activities with plans to have the project constructed and online by Q4 of 2017.
The Times and Democrat: Solar farms appear to be good for S.C.
After close scrutiny, Orangeburg County Development Commission Executive Director Gregg Robinson says local lawmakers should be encouraged to push ahead with new legislation to foster the development of solar farms in the state. When solar panels are located on farms, they bring revenue to farmers that they wouldn’t otherwise have and keep many family farms profitable and in the family for generations. “Income from that land can increase by 500 percent or more,” Robinson said in an op-ed posted on The Times and Democrat.
ABC News 4: Solar power is rising in the Lowcountry

Renewable Energy Magazine: State’s largest solar PV plant coming to Jasper County
81 megawatts (AC) of new solar power will be constructed in Jasper County, SC by the end of this year. When finalized, the new solar farm will be the largest in the state. In mid March Dominion, a Virginia-based power provider, announced plans to construct, own and operate a 71.4 megawatt facility along with an additional 10 megawatt installation.
