Jon Downey - President & CEO
Jon began his tenure with Southern Current by orchestrating the 2016 merger between Sustainable Energy Solutions and Solbridge Energy which formed the company. Since then, in his roles as CFO, President and as of 2018, CEO, Jon has managed the rapid growth of all sectors of the Company’s business.
Prior to Southern Current, Jon spent more than 20 years in senior management positions for rapidly growing, technology‐centric businesses. Included in this experience are terms as COO and CFO at Queensboro, Vice President of Operations at Red Ventures and Vice President of Merchandising at TSI. Each of these businesses grew more than 100% during Jon’s tenure. Jon holds a BA from Duke University and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
Paul Fleury - Chief Development Officer
Paul focuses on solar public policy, utility relations, and business development. Prior to Southern Current, Paul spent 8 years as an owner and senior manager of Sustainable Energy Solutions. During that time, Paul led the site acquisition and development activities for over 500 MWs of large scale solar projects across the Carolinas as well as a 10-fold increase in residential and commercial sales. Paul currently serves as a board member of the South Carolina Solar Business Alliance and has helped shape the South Carolina solar legislative and regulatory landscape. Included in his successes are the implementation of the Act 236 Distributed Energy Resource Program, the revision and adoption of Net Metering 2.0 and the crafting of a unified interconnection standard across the state. Paul holds a BA from the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business. Outside of work he enjoys spending time outdoors and on the water with his wife or on one of the Lowcountry’s many beautiful golf courses.
Greg White - Chief EPC Officer
Greg focuses on engineering, procurement and construction. Prior to Southern Current, Greg was a founding partner of Sustainable Energy Solutions, where he managed over 200 successful solar installations at Department of Defense, commercial, residential and non-profit facilities in SC, NC, TN, MS, MD and NY. Greg was directly responsible for the deployment of over a 1 MW of residential installations in the growing South Carolina market. Greg is a licensed South Carolina Contractor, holds his NABCEP SHI and has completed the OSHA 30 Construction Certification. He also holds a BA in Advertising from the University Of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism. Outside of work Greg enjoys spending time with his incredible wife Veronica, getting out on the water any way he can, listening to live music, and relaxing on the beach or by the pool.
David Brueck - Vice President, EPC
David has over 12 years of experience in engineering, design, procurement, and construction coordination of electrical systems. David has designed and directed the construction of over 8 MW of Solar PV systems around the country from Puerto Rico to Maine to Hawaii for commercial clients and the U.S. Government. David holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University. He is a licensed Professional Electrical Engineer who is registered in the states of SC, NC, GA, WI, AZ, and HI. David is also a NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) Certified PV Installer.
Bret Sowers - VP, Development Strategy
Bret oversees the company’s asset sales and buyer relationships in addition to overseeing the company’s state and federal policy and regulatory engagement
Prior to Southern Current, Bret spent over six years developing and constructing commercial and large-scale solar energy plants holding titles as Project Manager and Senior Business Developer.
Over the course of many years Bret has engaged in economic development and business transactions across the Southeastern U.S. helping facilitate hundreds of millions of new capital investment in solar energy plants in addition to helping attract new companies to locate or invest in various markets.
As a leader in the advanced energy industry, Bret serves on the board of various non-profit industry organizations holding titles of Chairman and Treasurer. He is a frequent speaker and panelists at industry events across the country where he promotes common-sense energy reforms and increased involvement from the private sector in new energy infrastructure.
Across the country Bret is integrally involved in helping shape new energy policies within state legislatures, utilities commissions, and other state agencies that would result in better service and lower costs for ratepayers.
At the federal level Bret frequently visits with Congressional offices, DOE, USTR, DOC, and other federal agencies on matters pertaining tax and trade in addition to general developments in energy technology and market dynamics.
Bret holds a Bachelor of Science from Appalachian State University in Construction Management.
Greg Ness - General Counsel
Greg advises the Southern Current team on legal matters. Prior to joining Southern Current, Greg spent eight years at FLS Energy, Inc., a leading solar energy development company focused on developing utility scale solar energy assets throughout the United States. Greg graduated summa cum laude from Auburn University with a B.S. in Biomedical Science. He also graduated with honors from Tulane University with a M.S. in Molecular Biology, as well as from Vermont Law School with a dual degree in Environmental Law and Environmental Science. Additionally, he co-founded a biomass firm based in Aachen, Germany and a residential solar company in Dakar, Senegal.
Anne Sanders - VP Of Corporate Finance
Anne is responsible for financial systems, financial reporting, treasury, tax compliance and supervision of the accounting, payroll and human resources departments. Anne has been working in the accounting industry in both the public and private sectors for over twenty years. She started her career in public accounting and has serviced clients in various industries including automotive, professional services, retail, construction, non-profits and employee benefit plans. Anne has over ten years of experience as a financial controller, three of which are in the renewable
energy sector. Anne is a certified public accountant licensed in South Carolina and North Carolina. Anne is also a member of the AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants) and SCACPA (South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants). Anne graduated summa cum laude with a BS in Accounting from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC.
